Amarilis and Mariangy - an LGBTQ Love Story
Donation protected
Amarilis and Mariangy fled to the U.S. from Venezuela with their two daughters to escape the threats of violence, in part due to their lesbian relationship. Their trip, through jungles, over mountains, and navigating dangerous rivers, was nothing short of horrific, and they endured trauma that was beyond thinkable, from members of their larger group being murdered to their family being kidnapped for money.
However, they believe it was worth it in ordered to give their children a better life and to be able to love each other safely and openly as a ️ couple. While their journey towards asylum has been rife with challenges, they believe their love for their family and for each other will see them through.
They currently call Denver, CO, home, and have found themselves surrounded by community and chosen family. From not having the $30 for a marriage license, to being thrown a beautiful park wedding through a mental health nonprofit called Dork Dancing, of which I am the executive director, their love is being celebrated. They are excited to be the guests of honor as newly weds in Denver’s 50th anniversary Pride Parade on June 23rd.
Please join us in continuing the support for them as they seek stable housing, food, and learn English for their best chance at receiving asylum.
