Amaya Storseth Anti-Bullying Memorial Fund
Donation protected
17-year-old Amaya Storseth passed away, on Wednesday, March 13, 2019,
Amaya was a warm, energetic young woman with a beautiful smile. She was a driven, talented athlete in basketball, and track and field. She was going to college in the Fall, and had received university acceptance letters and a generous scholarship.
Despite her accomplishments, not everything was easy for Amaya. Over the years, she was relentlessly bullied at school. In 2015, she even changed schools, but not school districts, in an effort to avoid the bullies. At her new school, she became someone who courageously stood up and intervened if she ever saw someone else being bullied. Still, the suffering of being bullied herself eventually became unbearable. Before ultimately taking her life, Amaya wrote in a final note that she wanted to escape from “being bullied and picked on.” Her family and friends have been absolutely devastated.
Making a Difference
A tragedy like this should never happen. But existing laws do not do enough to protect those who are being bullied and prevent future tragedies. Determined to make a difference, Amaya’s brokenhearted mother, Stef Storseth, has set up Amaya’s Fund. All monies will be used to support:
^ The creation of enforceable laws to hold accountable bullies and their enablers
- To do this, some of Amaya’s Fund will be distributed to an organization that specializes in getting actionable anti-bullying legislation passed.
^ Education of parents and students about bullying and its consequences
- To do this, the rest of Amaya’s Fund will be distributed to a worthy non-profit that provides anti-bullying education for both parents and teens.
Honoring Amaya by driving change
The family’s agony at losing Amaya under these circumstances is unimaginable. Out of their tragic loss, and the excruciating pain Amaya had to bear from bullying, needs to come meaningful change.
For anyone who would like to do something in Amaya’s honor, please contribute to Amaya's Fund. Stef is committed to leading an effort to bring about much-needed change to the way schools handle cases of bullying.
While Amaya’s death is a terrible loss for everyone in her local community, this fund needs more than local support. It needs to be sufficient to make a difference for countless victims of school-bullying around the country.
