Ambassadors for Christ International School (AfCIS) is a non-denominational independent Christian primary school located in Nsawam, Ghana, a small city located one hour north of the capital, Accra. The school provides students ages 3-15 with a private education that uses Christian principles as a way to develop its students into motivated lifelong learners and community leaders.
The school started functioning in 2022, serving six students. It has since expanded its operations to serve over 100 students. With the need for education growing in Ghana, and Africa generally, AfCIS expects to welcome at least 100 more students in the next academic year. Of all regions, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of education exclusion. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of about 6 and 11 are out of school, followed by one-third of youth between the ages of about 12 and 14. According to UIS data, almost 60% of youth between the ages of about 15 and 17 are not in school. Ambassadors for Christ seeks to meet this challenge by creating an accessible pipeline to education and providing supportive spaces where youth enter as students and leave empowered and ready to become tomorrow's leaders. As AfCIS enrollment grows, so does the need to expand its facilities. In order to serve a growing student population, AfCIS’s learning environment must be able to physically accommodate its students. Moving forward, the proposal is to construct a three-story building to include about 25 teaching and learning classrooms, staff rooms, offices for administration, library, computer lab, health post, toilet facilities, canteen, store rooms, music room, and a workshop room. The building, when completed, will also have a fence wall and security gatehouse to provide security for pupils, teachers, and staff of the school. The school will also be connected to the national electricity grid and install solar panels to provide electric power to the school. A water tank will also be installed to supply the school with clean drinking water. The cost of the project is estimated to cost $50,000.00 and expected to be completed by June 2025 to give enough time for the start of the academic year in September 2025.
In addition to the facility expansion, there are other financial needs in order to ensure success of the students and programming. Pressing needs include food, uniforms, teaching and learning supplies, and teacher wages. Students currently operate with the budget of $45 a month per student.
As global challenges compound, AfCIS expects to be at the forefront of confronting community problems in Nsawam by educating and motivating the next generation of Nsawam leadership. With AfCIS’s mission in mind, it becomes clear that donations made now to support AfCIS are worthwhile strategic investments in the future for Ghana, Africa, and the world we all live in.
