Support Amber Grant After Avalon's Passing
Donation protected
This GoFundMe is to support Amber Grant while she navigates the passing of her husband.
On September 6th, just a week after his 31st birthday and about a week prior to his 5th wedding anniversary, Avalon Grant transitioned from this earth. Avalon endured a lengthy and intense struggle with sickle cell disease. Although it is extremely unfortunate that he is no longer with us, we believe that Avalon is now free; free of illness, free of constant doctor visits, and free of pain.
Amber Grant, formerly Amber Martinez, absolutely adored Avalon. Who knew a couple who went to ring dance as teenagers would grow into such a gorgeous marriage? While in college, they would take 3+ hour road trips back and forth to each other to build their relationship, which eventually blossomed into 11 years together and 5 years married. This is a love story like no other of true perseverance.
Amber said it herself that she takes her vows seriously. She was with Avalon every step of the way. During their frequent trips to the hospital, she recalls that the nurses and doctors knew her by name. She was fierce in her pursuits of educating others about sickle cell so anyone who came in contact with Avalon could empathize with him and others fighting the disease. Although always connected by souls, Amber has now physically lost her husband.
Avalon spent his last three weeks on this earth in the hospital on a ventilator. Your generous contributions will help alleviate the hefty financial burden during this hard time caused by doctor visits, medical treatment, intensive care, and deceased services. Additionally, this will ease the financial strain Amber may face while navigating going from a two-income household to one.
For those who are not too familiar, sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that causes red blood cells to become rigid and shaped like a crescent or sickle, rather than their normal round shape. These misshapen cells can block blood flow in small blood vessels, leading to severe pain, frequent infections, and potential damage to organs. Patients with sickle cell disease often face a lifelong battle with debilitating symptoms and complications, which require ongoing medical care and support. Sickle cell is more common in African Americans.
We thank you in advance for donating to this cause. We also ask that you please educate yourselves on sickle cell disease by visiting https://www.sicklecelldisease.org/sickle-cell-health-and-disease/types/. Please, do keep Amber Grant, the family of Avalon Grant, and all of their loved ones in your prayers as they navigate this heartbreaking time.
