Amber needs brain surgery

Our fun, outgoing Amber has been battling through each day with a debilitating brain condition called Chiari Malformation . This condition causes pressure on the brain, pushing it downwards into the spinal canal restricting the flow of spinal fluid, and forcing a kink in the spinal cord. Unfortunately, the only treatment for this is surgery.

This Mum of 2 little ones has also been studying her Master of Teaching full time, working a casual job and has remained committed to her love of netball with the Beaufort football netball club. Amber is a loving caring person that always puts others before herself. With fear of not wanting to be a burden on others, many may be unaware of the extent this condition has had on Amber and our young families lives. Over the past 2 years Ambers symptoms have worsened. She experiences constant headaches, neck pain, numbness and tingling in her hands and feet, fatigue and tinnitus each day all while continuing to be a great Mum, partner, student, and friend.

After 10 months of countless scans, appointments and trips to Melbourne, Amber was referred to a specialist surgeon in Sydney that has recommended decompression surgery on her brain. The procedure involves removing a section of bone in the back of the skull, and shrinking the cerebral tonsils, relieving pressure by giving the brain and spinal cord more room and restoring the flow of spinal fluid to the brain.

With the costs for this surgery exceeding $40,000 and the surgeon willing to perform the procedure as early as next month, unfortunately we have found ourselves in financial need. I really want to give her the opportunity to live a life free from these debilitating symptoms, and our two kids the healthy and happy mum I know she is.
