Those are the videos that have followed my journey through this life changing experience so far. I hope you take the time out to watch them =)
In march of 2013, I was out riding motorcycles with some friends when a guy high on pills came into our lane in a blind corner and hit us almost head on. Thankfully, no one else was hurt but me. When the car hit me, it tore my knee off completely, leaving me with 2 options: put a rod from my hip to my ankle and never bend my leg again, or amputate my leg above my knee. Since I was 22 at the time, very active with dance and work, I chose to amputate it. I have now had 10 surgeries, the last one being this past week, 12/11/13, to remove about 2 more inches from my residual limb that had formed bone spurs, which are bone like spikes that were about a half an inch long. They pretty much caused any walking to be painful. It felt like my knee was popping out of place every step I took. Along the way, I have made videos and posted them on YouTube in hopes that my story could help other people along the way. As of right now, before insurance, I have about $400,000 in medical bills, not including prosthetics. After discussing it with my awesome leg guy, he's determined that, with inflation over the years, and how active I am, that I'll end up spending near $3 million on legs for the duration of my lifetime. The Tulsa and Broken Arrow Chive chapters have been an amazing help through all of this and I have made some incredible friends. I know the holidays are here and that money is tight, but I will be leaving this up for a couple months so everyone has a chance to help if they would like. The guy who hit me only had basic liability insurance, and that won't even cover my life flight bills. My goals after the amputation were to walk a 5k, go back to work, and wear my stiletto's on new years. When I tried to go back to work, we found out I had to have surgery again, resulting in me being on crutches for another 2 months, which means I won't be able to wear my heels on new years. But I know that I'll be able to blow all of those goals out of the water next year. I was just hoping you would take the time out of your day to watch the videos and possibly help me in getting the word out. I would be forever grateful. Thank you for your time.
