Amelia was diagnosed with a rare form of Spina Bifida, terminal myelocystocele with hydromyelia, tethered spinal cord and Feet deformities. Amelia has undergone one major surgery to detether her spinal cord and though it was a success it caused irreversible nerve damage. Amelia’s legs and feet started to deteriorate after the surgery but the use of Ankle Foot orthotics have given her some stability and twister cables help keep her legs straight. Unfortunately Amelia has no sensation from the waist down but she is so determined and strong. Amelia has what’s called a Neurogenic bladder and bowel. This mean when the time comes she will need medication and surgeries to help her with Social continence. Amelia has recently been diagnosed with scoliosis on top of everything else, but she is a fighter and we will fight on. Amelia is going to be 2 in February and she’s just starting to pull to stand, we are so proud and hopeful. We are hoping to get Amelia a gate trainer in the New Year. Amelia has a long hard life ahead and we want to give her the best chance at happiness. We are asking for help because the bills are piling up from medication and some very pricey equipment. We are trying our best and truly appreciate each and everyone who is apart of our lives. We don’t know what the future holds for our sweet baby girl but we will continue to do our best to give her the life she deserves.
