Amina's Wellbeing Fund

Amina is a Black migrant from the United Kingdom who was trafficked into the US in 2009. She continued to be trafficked until DHS arrested her 3 years ago and has been detained ever since. Amina is a smart and charismatic woman with a very bright spirit, she desperately needs us to be in solidarity with her, bring awareness to her story and demand her human rights are respected. The funds collected will go towards Aminas immediate needs in detention and will support her in restoring her dignity.
Donate to Amina’s well being fund to:
- Ensure she can buy phone cards, postage for mail, and reading material
- Be able to buy personal items in the commissary
- Get clothes and other personal items upon her release

In 2017, she was detained in Broward Transitional Center in Florida. She had also been detained at Miami Dade, Krome Service Processing Center, and eventually to Glades County Detention Center. During her time in Florida, she filed over 50 complaints against DHS staff, private prison guards. She received a lot of retaliation in response, like being denied food, put in the isolation unit and other horrors. Bud Conlin from Friends of Miami-Dade Detainees, was signed up to be her sponsor cause her deportation officer had said he would grant her parole if she had someone willing to receive her. The day Amina was to be released, Bud was told she was not there, nothing else. She wasn’t released and he wasn’t told anything. It was horrifying.
We got a call from Amina a couple months later — she was at a hospital and was given antipsychotics against her will. She wasn’t able to call very much during her time in the hospital. Next time we heard from her it was February 2019 and she had been moved to Pearsall in Texas. We were able to visit and Amina got connected to several different organizations that connected her to attorneys.
During the three years she has spent in DHS custody, she was transferred to at least six different facilities, hospitalized, developed chronic health issues, and has been the target of racialized abuse throughout it all. Amina was denied asylum case, her appeal was denied, a stay was denied, but Amina continues to fight for her dignity and is looking for defense under the Trafficking Victims Defense Act and/or a U-visa.
DHS is trying to deport Amina to this day, yet Amina continues to seek safety in this country and is proactively defending herself.
