Help Amiya Study Abroad

Donation protected
My name is Amiya Fellows,

In November, I received notification from the HBCU Africa Education Coalition (HAEC) that I was selected to study abroad in Ghana for 2 weeks in the Summer of 2024.

Of course, this great experience has financial obligations, and I’m unable to accept it without your help. The cost/expenses for the trip is $5,000. I received notification in November, and all payments are due by January 31, 2024. Therefore, I am looking to gain your immediate financial support to assist me in moving forward with this awesome opportunity.

More about Amiya and why studying in Ghana is meaningful for me:

I am a sophomore healthcare administration major attending Tennessee State University. I currently hold a 4.0 grade point average and I have a passion for making a difference in the healthcare field. My goal is to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of a hospital where I will have the ability to advocate for policy reform and establish practices to ensure physicians are providing quality care, patients are treated fairly, and have access to quality healthcare in the communities we serve.

The HBCU Africa Education Coalition (HAEC) will provide me with the opportunity to study abroad and student exchange which uses a Pan-African model designed to promote Pan-Africanism, Global Competency, and Leadership skills among students of African Ancestry. I and other student leaders from HBCUs and African Universities will focus on the principles of Identity and the Primacy of Africa, Humanism, and African Unity and Socialism which will allow me to take actions to make my local, national, and international ecosystems more Equitable and Inclusive.

I am excited about this opportunity, as I have always held an interest in research regarding the economic disparities in the US and worldwide. This summer I was able to serve as an intern in the Technical Assistance and Research Center and Policy and Legislation Department with the National Council of Urban Indian Health, where I conducted research, data analysis, and evaluation of health operations, policy development, and legislation for American Indian and Alaska Native people living in cities.

Studying abroad in Ghana will allow me to take a huge step outside of my comfort zone, experience a lifestyle outside of my normal community, and expand my public health knowledge. This program will allow me the opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, develop a global mindset, and further increase my interest in cultural differences.

I am excited to gain perspectives, data, and knowledge that I can utilize along my journey in my future career in healthcare.

Any assistance you can provide is meaningful and appreciated. I am grateful for your investment in my future.
