AMOR Project: Teen Immigrants

Donation protected
Thank you so much for considering making a donation to A.M.O.R. Project!

The A.M.O.R. Project (Assisting Migrants and/or Refugees) works with young refugees in southern Spain who arrive as unaccompanied minors, often after harrowing journeys. As minors, they receive minimal government assistance, but at 18 suddenly find themselves on their own in Spain, with little understanding of Spanish language or culture, and subject to additional restrictions that make earning a legal living nearly impossible.

A.M.O.R. Project comes alongside  vulnerable young men and provides basic human needs: housing when necessary, job training, language study, and emotional and spiritual support, all the while being loved as family. In short, A.M.O.R. Project is a faith-based organization meeting needs in a holistic manner, sharing the love of Jesus in word and deed, respectfully loving the young men in its care.

A year ago, A.M.O.R. Project was just an idea.

Now, despite the persistence of Covid-19 and the challenges of 2020, six young men are safely housed in one apartment, each with his own unique story. Each one is improving his Spanish, learning marketable job skills, and maybe most importantly, experiencing what it means to be loved unconditionally. These young refugees who could be (and some have been) on the street, vulnerable to all kinds of exploitation and abuse, are receiving love and care and education.

In addition, A.M.O.R. Project operates a center in town where these young men and others who are not in the residential program receive training in areas such as Spanish language learning, pool maintenance, landscaping,  computer skills, and just as importantly, life skills. The center provides space for counseling and opportunities to meet together in a fun, safe environment. A.M.O.R. Project also partners with individuals and community groups to provide expanded learning opportunities.

Because the A.M.O.R. Project is intended to help these young men move into adulthood, the duration of the residential program is a year to a year and a half, with monthly accountability. This concept provides a sort of 'revolving door', allowing new participants into the program, and in time, providing alumni mentors from the A.M.O.R. Project.

Already, the impact is great, and the needs are greater. The target population of unaccompanied minors aging out of assistance is severely underserved, and is considered the most important unmet need by the International Red Cross

Money raised by this GoFundMe goes directly to the A.M.O.R. Project to be used for rent for both the apartment and the community center, food for the young men, transportation, some of the technical training and government fees. An important aspect of the project is helping these young men obtain enough official paperwork to be recognized and legally employed in Europe.

We so appreciate your consideration and ask that you make a one-time gift to offset operating costs, or contact us for information about monthly giving at [email redacted] .

The AMOR Project operates under the authority of the NGO Asociación Sociocultural IberAfrica, registered in Spain with the fiscal Identificaion Number (NIF) G93491140.
