Life Altering Shark Attack

While on what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation, my sister-in-law and her husband, my brother, lived what can only be described as a nightmare.

After leaving the beach to join her husband, in only hip deep clear water, a seven-foot bull shark came at my sister-in-law and bumped into her legs. The shark then circled around and bit her thigh. Not satisfied, the shark came back again and when she put both hands in front of her to protect herself, the shark cut off both of her hands, one at mid forearm and the other at the wrist. Her husband, having rushed back to help, then managed to wrestle away the shark and stayed between her and the shark until she walked out of the water and collapsed on the beach.

Following first aid on the beach, she was transported to a local hospital for initial treatment but had to be flown back to Canada by air ambulance to undergo further surgery and recovery.

My brother served our country in the Canadian Armed forces for over 30 years with tours in Kuwait, twice in Afghanistan, Golan Heights, Haiti and Bosnia. He served our country with pride; it’s our turn to help them.

This is something that has completely altered their life in the blink of an eye. I ask, if you can, to please help them; they will need a lot of support to get through this. Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Attaque de requin qui altère la vie

Pendant ce qui était censé être des vacances relaxantes, ma belle-sœur et son mari, mon frère, ont vécu ce qui ne peut être décrit que comme un cauchemar.

Partant de la plage pour aller rejoindre son mari, dans de l'eau claire et seulement de profondeur de la hanche, elle aperçue un requin bouledougue de sept pieds qui c’est approcher d’elle et a heurté ses jambes. Le requin a ensuite fait le tour d’elle et lui a mordu la cuisse. Le requin, non satisfait, est revenu à l’attaque et quand elle a mis les deux mains devant elle pour se protéger, le requin, instantanément lui a amputer les deux mains, une au milieu de l'avant-bras et l'autre au poignet. Son mari, aillant retourner à sa défense, a réussi à forcer le requin à lâcher son attaque et est resté entre elle et le requin jusqu'à ce qu'elle sorte de l'eau et s'effondre sur la plage.

Suivant les premier-soins données sur la plage, elle a été transportée à un hôpital local pour y être traitée initialement, mais elle a dû être ramenée au Canada par ambulance aérienne pour subir d'autres interventions chirurgicales et se rétablir.

Mon frère a servi notre pays dans les Forces Armée Canadiennes pendant plus de 30 ans en faisant part aux missions au Koweït, deux fois en Afghanistan, sur le plateau du Golan, en Haïti et en Bosnie. Il a servi notre pays avec fierté, à notre tour de les aider.
