The Café Rosetta is receiving$1,000/day fines from MDHHS that are delivered with daily harassment from Tanya Rule.  Tanya Rule is an avowed Socialist and the Director of Environmental Health in our area.  Tanya Rule uses her positional power daily to harass the law-abiding citizens of the Keweenaw.  The owners Amy and Jake Heikkinen are willing to stand up and take the fight to the Supreme Court if necessary, the least we can do is provide the needed funding.  The funds raised will be used to fund the legal action and PR campaign needed to win this case in the court of Law and the court of Public opinion, for both them and the restaurant industry of Michigan.  The legal fees are anticipated to be between $70,000 and $100,000, the remaining funds raised will be used to pay for the PR campaign.  Their story follows.Amy and Jake Heikkinen are siblings and partners in Café Rosetta.  In 2013 when working the North Dakota Oil Patch, Jake, single and frugal found himself in the position to invest some of his earnings, he wanted to invest in his hometown of Calumet.  After looking around a bit he decided on a coffee and pastry shop, this initial start was quickly and positively received by the local community.  Within a few months the Café Rosetta morphed into breakfast and lunch place with the help of his sister and soon partner Amy.  Since 2013, Amy, a single mother of 6, threw her love of baking and life-long dream of owning a bakery into the venture and has been the operating partner ever since.  Expanding the business in 2019 by purchasing the building next door.  Amy was living her dream, working hard, while providing for her family and as a by-product created 30 jobs for the local community.  After surviving the first Covid shutdown, in late 2020 everything changed.  Suddenly the draconian, unconstitutional orders, of a tyrannical Governor were reconstituted in another form and forced the pair to make a decision.  The choice was simple, close the doors and lose the business forever or remain open and defend their business and possibly lose it anyway.  When you have 6 children the choice is simple, take care of the family, this meant staying open.   Amy and Jake Heikkinen are naturally shy people of Finnish heritage but they have one thing in spades, “Sisu”, that unique Finnish trait that says come what may we will make it and provides the courage and stubbornness to do what is necessary regardless of the cost.  The stand that Amy and Jake are taking is not unlike that of Karle Manke the Barber who singlehandedly stood down the Governor of Michigan and defeated her in the State Supreme Court.  As with Karl Manke, they will carry the burden for many restaurateurs and could use your help.  Please consider donating generously to support them as they take the fight as far as necessary to defend their God given constitutionally protected rights, by helping them you help secure your freedom too.   “The ones who can “afford” to “wait this out” are the ones who need to stand up, and the ones who cannot afford to “wait this out” are the ones who cannot “afford” to sit out.”
