Amy Becker McLaughlin’s road to recovery
Donation protected
On August 18th, our mom, Amy, underwent emergency surgery to remove an abscess from her brain. After the procedure, her doctors determined that she had had two strokes, and she was subsequently placed in a coma. When she woke, she had very limited speech, her vision was impacted, and she was unable to eat or walk.
Since then, she has spent a total of six weeks in the hospital and inpatient rehab fighting to regain her independence. Despite going through multiple brain surgeries, strokes, and countless other hurdles and procedures along the way, she has remained incredibly positive. Her continued and rapid improvement has been praised by her medical staff and has been amazing to watch. That being said, she still has a long way to go for recovery and it will take time.
Although the timing for something like this is never good, just prior to all this happening, her employment was lost due to an organizational restructure for the company she was working for. As a result, she was in the process of seeking new employment, had interviews scheduled, etc. This obviously has all been put on hold while she recovers, and we’re not certain just how long her recovery will take and when she will be able to seek employment again.
By creating this fund, our hope is to allow our mom the necessary time to focus on recovery, versus her worrying about the reality of life expenses and bills. We don’t have a specific goal in mind regarding this, but any money we raise will go directly to paying her living expenses and impending medical bills.
We are happy to say that she is now out of the hospital/inpatient rehab and staying with her mom and dad for a while since she still requires 24 hour care and lots of trips to her doctor and therapy appointments. Our family thanks you for your continued support, good thoughts, and prayers during this difficult time. She is on the path to recovery and she is the strongest person we know!
