Amy Duncan's recovery
Donation protected
My youngest sister, Amy, was in a devastating car accident the day after Thanksgiving, 2022. She suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury that resulted in having to go through emergency brain surgery to stop bleeding, as well as a craniotomy to control swelling, and was placed in an induced coma for over a week. At the 10-day mark she finally opened her eyes, and within a few days began to respond to her kids and family. She also suffered a stroke. She has a long journey of recovery and healing ahead, and we learn day-to-day what that recovery might look like. This week, just a few days before Christmas, she is finally beginning to respond to commands more and more. She has regained movement and response on the left side of her body and is responding to familiar faces more every day. She is unable to communicate, as she currently has a tracheostomy, however, she responds with smiles or tears, especially when she gets to see her children. She is also currently fighting an infection at her incision site, and with another recent surgery and antibiotics is on the road to recovery from that as well. Her medical team is hopeful that she will be able to be moved out of the Neuro ICU and go straight to a rehab facility within the next week, to begin a long, hard process of relearning and recovery. She is a recently single mom on her own, so keeping her home available for her return is an important part of this journey. We were able to come together and pay her bills for the month of December, but now we need help to continue. The amount we would need to pay her rent, utilities, monthly bills, and various payments so that she and her children can go back home after rehab is about $2500 a month. Until she gets into the rehab facility, we won't know what that timeline looks like, we just know she has a long road ahead, and we desperately want to help hold her home for her little family. Thank you for any and all help you can offer while we support this amazing person we love so very much!
Week 1
Week 3, she hates this helmet, can you tell?! Her skull bone won't be replaced on the left side for 12 weeks, to allow swelling to continue to go down.
THAT is my sister smiling, just a little bit! Thank You, God!
She is SUCH a fighter!! You've got this Amy!!
