Amy Falco's Fight

Donation protected
My name is Joe Falco, and I am fundraising for Amy Falco.

It is with great sadness that this GoFundMe page even has to exist. Many of you who know me and my family know that I was with my ex-wife for almost 30 years. Amy had supported me and raised our three daughters through my deployments while in the Navy, during my many overseas trips with my civilian job and beyond. Our girls are now young adults, and we have been blessed again with the expansion of their own families and have even been given three beautiful grandkids.

For those of you who know us personally, you know that Amy has been struggling with her physical health for a very long time. Many years ago, we almost lost Amy, but she miraculously recovered after having only a small percent chance of doing so.

Amy is a fighter, and once again, she is being asked to fight. Unfortunately, her health has taken a turn for the worst in the last month or so and she was hospitalized with fluid filling up in her lungs. We all were together at her bedside when the local hospital informed us that there was nothing more that they could do for her there. Her lungs continued to fill with fluid daily, her liver was failing, and her kidneys began to fail. Amy has a condition called NASH (Non-Alcoholic Sorosis).

I had to have the difficult conversation of asking her wishes, and in true Amy fashion, she reported she wanted to FIGHT. She was not ready to give up on life and not ready to leave her family. So we continued on, the girls and I finding ways to help her fight. In hopes of giving her her fighting chance, Amy was transferred to Indiana University in Indianapolis, where specialists would look at her case and see if anything could be done.

At the point that I write this, palliative care is now being discussed. Unfortunately, Amy is not eligible for a liver transplant as she has an infection throughout her body, one that they do not know what it actually is nor know where it is coming from. Therefore, she cannot get the transplant she needs to continue her fight and we are now having to discuss supportive options to keep Amy comfortable. We are at a loss, our family feels helpless and are grieving.

I am asking for help for my girls during this time. They are young adults and financially struggling. They are in need of financial support during this time, whether to help with the cost of traveling and seeing their mom in Indianapolis (four hrs from the closest daughter, seven from the farthest) or for future arrangements that may need to be made and incoming medical expenses associated with Amy’s care. In addition, one of our daughters lives with Amy and cannot maintain all the costs related to the apartment as she is currently out of work. Therefore, she will be emptying the apartment, placing items in storage, and moving back to Illinois with us.

I hate that this even has to be written, but I need to ask for help for my girls. I cannot do this alone and am brave enough to ask for your support humbly. Any donations received will be used to help handle Amy's bills and support our daughters and their families during this difficult time. Thank you for anything you can do. Thank you for supporting us during this time.
