Amy Farr's Adenocarcinoma Cancer Battle
Donation protected
Amy has worked as a caregiver for most of her life. Whether it be working in facilities or caring for her own family. Over the last three years, Amy has been a home manager for a group home that specializes in caring for individuals with traumatic brain injuries and autism behavioral disorders.
Amy left work after working late on 11/6/23 and drove herself to the ER in tears from the pain. After running a series of tests and getting imaging done, the doctor came in to inform her that she had a large mass that he believed to likely be cancer. Two days later, she was in the ER in Madison for immense pain and the doctors there agreed with the previous ER doctor. Amy was referred her out for a biopsy, which she had completed on 11/9/23. An appointment was then scheduled for 11/14/23 to go over her results. Amy learned that she has retroperitoneal mass that has been identified as gastric adenocarcinoma. This has affected her spleen, stomach, liver, kidney, & pancreas. She had a CT scan to see if it had spread to her lungs and throat. The cancer had not spread to those areas however, they did find blood clots in her lungs. On 11/22/23, she had imaging done to see if it's spread to her pelvic region. Also on 12/6/23, she had an endoscopy & colonoscopy done to check for more cancer. Thankfully, it sounds like the cancer cells have not spread any further than what was initially discovered in November. They have not given her an official "stage" or prognosis as of today's date. But on 12/15/23, she was told that they believe it is stage 3 but will know more when they do surgery on 01/12/24. The surgery is being performed in an attempt to remove as much of the tumor as possible. They already know they cannot remove all of it but they're hoping the chemo & radiation will take care of the rest. This is going to be a very serious surgery that will take several hours to complete. When completed, she will be in the hospital for a minimum of 6 - 10 days, followed by 8 - 10 weeks of almost NO physical activity.
Amy's absence at work has been an unfathomable blow to everyone. I don't think she realizes how much of an asset she has been to her clients, her staff, and to the company overall. This woman has bent over backwards to move mountains that many others would never touch. She unfortunately has put her health on the back burner for far too long while putting everyone else's needs before her own because that's just who Amy is. Now, she has no choice but to stop and take care of herself. This woman has been struggling & suffered in what I can only assume is some of the worst pain imaginable. She has basically felt like she's had a horrible case of stomach flu mixed with severe abdominal pains for the last few weeks. It's very difficult for her to get comfortable at all right now and each day, the pain and discomfort gets progressively worse.
As you can imagine, this whole ordeal is going to get VERY expensive. She unfortunately did not have medical insurance prior to all of this but the medical team is working with her to try to get her enrolled into a program that will hopefully help. Even if her medical expenses get covered, that won't help with transportation costs, bills, co-pays, etc. There are talks of hopefully doing a local benefit in the weeks to come but this is just a way to hopefully get her some funds now.
Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to donate. If you are not able to donate, please just share this page if you could. Also, please reach out to Amy, Stina, or myself if you would like to donate outside of this platform.
