Amy Steffe Lohmann

We lost my sweet sister, Amy, on Monday, August 14th, 2023, to metastatic breast cancer. She was simply the BEST... a damn FIGHTER... the sweetest, smartest and most loyal human ever. She didn't deserve this... nor do her kiddos. Heartbroken.

Amy was a go-getter and flourished in everything she touched. As her former professor, friend and colleague, Nancy Pike, wrote: "Dr. Lohmann was one of our rising star UCLA Dual Primary Care PNP/CNS Alumni who graduated in 2005 and practiced at Facey Medical Foundation as a PNP for 11 years and at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in Interventional Radiology for 8 years. She started teaching at UCLA in 2012 and became a continuing lecturer in 2019. She went back to school to receive her DNP from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2016 and post-master acute care PNP certification from the University of Texas-Arlington in 2020." All that to say, she was a smarty-pants and sort of the best nerd ever. Amy was AMAZING at all her jobs and well respected as a PNP. As if her multiple jobs weren't enough, Amy also touched many lives by being a nutritional coach for Optavia, which was a huge passion of hers. More than anything, she loved the friendships she made by helping others achieve their nutritional goals. Over the years Amy was asked to be on numerous boards/committees, speak at conferences, and mentored hundreds of people. She touched so many people's lives in a truly positive way. Her most recent accomplishment came almost one year ago, as she helped raise more than $160,000 for metastatic breast cancer research at the Met Gala - Santa Clarita, which she co-chaired. If you'd like more information regarding the gala this year, please visit www.metgalascv.com. As she knew she couldn't co-chair this year, due to her fight, Amy was asked to be a guest speaker this coming September 9th at this event very dear to her heart. The crazy thing was that last year when she co-chaired the event she didn't even know her cancer had returned and therefore was, in fact, metastatic. She found out two days after the Gala.

Although her career was impressive, the most important aspect of Amy's life was her family, especially her children, Ryan (15) and Allison (13). Her kiddos were her EVERYTHING and she loved every single moment she spent with them. She always tried to be the FUN Mom... the Mom that sang and danced like no one was watching, the Mom that got up extra early to make breakfast for them before she left for work, the Mom that had sweet little sayings in Spanish, the Mom that was a multi-tasker extraordinaire, the Mom that stopped for Starbucks or ice cream 'just because,' the best dog Mom to Mylo and Mia. She was the fixer of everything and cherished the sweet, quiet moments with each of them. She was so incredibly proud of them. I found a quote that seemed fitting... "A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path." We will try our darnedest to continue this love for Ryan and Allie.

Amy's other loves were of course our Mom, Peggy, and my wife, her SIL, Beth. They were both her BEST friends and she loved them dearly. She knew they would both go to the ends of the earth for her. My Mom has selflessly taken care of Amy since her relapse. She was her caregiver and chauffeur every day. She fought this battle side by side with Amy. I also want to thank her bestie, Anita. Anita is now officially part-Steffe and was with Amy at almost every Dr. appointment over the past few weeks - just the best friend that Amy could ever ask for. Amy also adored her nephews and niece... Drew, Ava and Dylan. We had so many family holidays, vacations, and weekends at our lakehouse that were incredible. Amy always supported my kiddos numerous sporting events and activities, literally being at Ava's volleyball match last Thursday. She was super proud of them and they LOVED their Auntie Amy.

To honor my sister, we will be having two informal "Celebration of Life" get-togethers. Amy wouldn't want anything formal. She would simply want us to be together, share memories, and "cheers" with a drink in her honor. The firsts on August 27th in Texas at my home and was INCREDIBLE.

The second will be in Newhall, California on September 10th, details below:

She told us the day before she passed away that ALL she cared about was that Ryan and Allie would be taken care of. My family will ensure that, but any help would be super appreciated.

From the bottom of my heart and my family's hearts, thank you. Remember her as the feisty, no bullshit, optimistic, amazing Mom and woman that she was. She was a bad-ass and I am honored to be her brother. We will always keep your memory alive, Dr. Amy Steffe Lohmann.

Love you all.
Matt
