Amy Weideman Cancer Surgery

Last November my dear friend Amy ended up with pneumonia that wouldnt go away despite months of antibiotics and steroids. She had had the pneumonia for so long that it was starting to kill her lungs. After tons of tests, scans and blood work the doctors couldn’t find anything, but they knew something was suppressing Amy’s immune system. Amy started having bad stomach cramps and couldn’t eat without throwing up. After more blood work and an ultrasound, they found 2 tumors in Amy’s stomach. They did biopsies on the tumors and on March 19, 2018, Amy was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors. She started on chemo right away in hopes of keeping the tumors from growing so her lungs could clear up. Amy’s doctor at St. Luke’s Boise works with the Huntsman Institute, and Amy was referred to a surgeon in Mexico that they work with for surgery. They will take approximately 85% of her stomach out due to the size and location of the tumors. Amy will have to do 6-9 months of chemo following surgery. She will have to take 3-4 weeks off work when she has the surgery and 5 of those days she will be in Mexico. Amy is not one to ask for help and she is always trying to help others. She has fallen on hard times, has gotten behind on some major bills and has so much on her plate that she is asking for help. This is the last thing she wanted to do. She needs to raise about $7,000 just to help make ends meet and help with things while she is not working and traveling to Mexico for her surgery.  If you can find it in your heart to help Amy, she will be forever thankful, as will her friends and family.
