Amy Helene Kirschke Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
Our energetic, empathetic, and hilarious mom & beloved wife, Amy Helene Kirschke, left this world in the early morning of November 27, 2021, after a year-long fight with brain cancer. It's hard to imagine a world without her in it. Amy was a supermom to her three daughters, sharing her love and pride for them every day. She was a loving partner to her husband James throughout their marriage, which was filled with music, food, and new adventures. She played many other roles, too: budding cellist and rower, little sister, daughter, best friend--but ultimately, Amy was a stranger to no one.
Amy spent 24 years as a professor, 15 of them as faculty and later chair of UNCW's Art and Art History Department. She loved everything about being a professor, and her deep passion for teaching, mentorship, and research left a mark on so many. Her focus on African-American art in her research brought new perspectives to her field and reflected her long-held commitment to amplifying historically excluded voices within the academy. In light of this, we have set up a scholarship in her name that will provide funds to students who have traditionally faced barriers to entering or remaining in this field. We think she would love having her name attached to such a cause.

We will miss her every minute of every day.
