Help Us Support Those Affected by Hurricane Helene
Hurricane Helene has devastated our hometown Asheville and many other areas of Western North Carolina, leaving many people without essential resources like clean water, heat, and basic supplies. With a cold front approaching and temperatures set to drop into the 30s and 40s in some areas, the urgency for support is growing by the hour. The combination of toxic water, mudslides, and ongoing storm damage has made the situation especially dangerous for local communities.
My wife Amy and I are committed to helping. We were scheduled to leave Asheville on September 27th for a trip to Michigan, but an intuitive feeling urged us to leave a day earlier. We’re grateful that we, along with our home, remained safe.
Now, from Bloomington, Indiana, where we’re visiting Amy's son Matthew, we’re planning our return to help the Asheville community recover.
We are renting a home in Asheville's River Arts District (one of the affected areas), and we were already scheduled to move out on October 15th due to our lease ending.
However, before we pack up for good, we are determined to help our neighbors who have lost so much during this disaster. Though the house remains intact, the severe conditions—no running water, internet, or basic infrastructure—have made it clear that relief is what’s needed most right now.
Our immediate plan is to drive from Bloomington to Tennessee, rent a truck, and load it with essential supplies for the people of Asheville and the surrounding areas. These supplies include:
- Heavy-duty blankets and sleeping bags
- Warm clothing for adults, children, and babies (thermals, jackets, hats, gloves, scarves)
- Air-activated hand and foot warmers
- Clean drinking water
- Diapers and baby care supplies
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) for those working to clean up the damage, including chemical-resistant suits and gloves
- Other crucial items to help people endure the cold and challenging conditions
We will personally drive these supplies to Asheville and distribute them to our neighbors, local communities, and organizations that are working tirelessly to help those in need. Our goal is to ensure that these life-saving supplies reach those who are suffering the most from this crisis.
Through this GoFundMe page, we are asking for your help. Your donations will go directly toward purchasing these critical supplies, allowing us to bring much-needed relief to the families and individuals affected by Hurricane Helene.
We promise to keep you updated with photos, videos, and reports on the impact your contributions are making. Whether you’re family, friends, colleagues, or fellow citizens, we’re asking for your support during this time of immense need.
Thank you for standing with us and supporting the people of Western North Carolina.
With love and light,
Amy & Marc
