Amy's chance to start anew

Donation protected
I am raising funds for my daughter Amy, who has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour and will be starting 6 weeks of intense radiotherapy at the best Neurology hospital - UCLH in Queen's Square, London.

Amy was diagnosed with this tumour in 2021 and had regular scans to monitor her. Her last scan in November showed a significant growth, and due to the pressure it was putting on the front of her head she was at risk of seizures and the tumour itself spreading.

We faced it all as a family and Amy had her surgery on 15th May and spent a week in hospital, then 8 weeks at home recovering with her family. Her hair was shaved and she was unable to drive during her recovery - but she took it all in her stride! There was always the possibility of some tumour remaining, however this was to be dealt with a one off Gamma Knife radiotherapy.

Amy saw the Oncologist at a follow up appointment who informed her there is more of the tumour left than originally expected and they discovered a second tumour wrapping itself around her right eye. Amy will start radiotherapy on 16th September and will again lose her hair and be unable to drive for a year due to medical reasons.

Amy will not receive sick pay throughout this treatment as she used her time whilst recovering for surgery, meaning she has been forced to leave her job (once she has worked up until treatment) and will no longer be earning a wage. Amy has given notice to her landlord and is currently trying to sell her car, and needs to give up her job as she will not physically be able to work through this treatment.

She will then have to relocate to the Isle of Wight to receive 24 hour care from her family as the side effects of the radiotherapy are very strong and she again will be at high risk of seizures due to the placement of the radiotherapy. She has started to sell everything in her flat in a bid to raise enough funds to cover the next few months until she is fit enough to return to work and find a new job when she is physically able to.

At just 33, having her life totally upended is something you would never expect to happen to your daughter at such a young age. Throughout the whole process she has maintained her dignity, put on a brave face and just kept going. Her strength is unbelievable and her smile is never fading. As per her words "it'll be fine"! She's an inspiration to us all and as a family we are supporting her as best we can through what is unimaginable by making this move as smooth as possible and to make her feel at home when she arrives after treatment.

I have started this GoFundMe to support Amy whilst she is off work and no longer earning. She needs to pay for relocation to the isle of wight, plus pay all final bills at her current flat. UCLH will be providing accommodation throughout treatment, however there are no provisions for cooking or storing food, which means she will need to buy food and drink everyday for 6 weeks as food will need to be bought fresh, plus keep on top of her other monthly bills. Amy will have no income at all when treatment begins - she is hoping to be able to buy a wig or hair piece once her hair has fallen out, just to regain some of her confidence.

All donations will be greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference to Amy and we thank you all in advance. Let's help her get through this so she can put it all behind her and start her life anew, happy and healthy!
