Amy’s fight against her brain tumor

Hi, my names Amy and this is my journey and story about my fight against my brain tumor.

last month I was diagnosed with a Stage 2 Astrocytoma Brain Tumor, and that it the scariest thing I have ever been told at just 22 years old.

My journey begun in late 2018 when there was 2 abnormal findings on my brain. 1 of those being an Arterial Venus Malformation (AVM) which was resected in April 2019 making that my first brain surgery at the age of 17, and the other being what I was told “maybe a birth mark on your brain”.

In December 2020 after being monitored for months I got the phone call from my neurologist telling me that what they thought was a birth mark had grown and they had feared it was a tumor and they needed to do a biopsy. They performed a brain biopsy in April of 2021 making this my second brain surgery at 19 and the results from that couldn’t give them a definitive answer and I was back to being monitored with MRI scans.

September 2023 I was called and told I needed to come into the RAH and see my surgeon as my tumor had now grown and was now double the size it was when they noticed it had grown in December 2020. It was time to biopsy again just a week later making this my 3rd brain surgery at 22. Again the biopsy gave them no definitive answer as to what it was.

In November 2023 they decided it was time to go back in and try to resect the tumor as best they could, making this my 4th surgery also at the age of 22.

Fast forward to February 2024 I was given the diagnosis of a Stage 2 Astrocytoma Brain Tumor and this felt like the worst possible news I had ever received. My surgery to resect the tumor didn’t work and now my tumor is even bigger then when they went to try and take it out. I now face Radiation therapy to try kill the cells that are currently in my brain and stop them from turning into an aggressive stage 3/4 cancer. Along side all of this I also face many other side affects and a life long journey ahead of me.

I’m asking for you all to please if you can help me and my fight again this tumor. I now face radiation, many appointments and scans and that results in time off work and given I have just used my leave for my last 2 surgeries, this time off will be unpaid, and with that and the cost of medications and appointments, the financial stress and burden is taking a huge toll on me.
