Amy's Kidney Transplant Journey

Donation protected

UPDATE: I received my kidney transplant at the end of January 2022. It has been such a tremendous blessing, and things are going extremely well as far as the kidney is concerned. We are still in need of some help - since the surgery took place ner the beginning of the year, it has applied towards our deductible on our insurance, and we are now being hit with a bill for several thousand dollars from the hospital, and they are already threatening us with legal action. I have made many attempts to try to raise money by refinishing and selling some furniture pieces, and have not been able to sell a single one after many months of attempts. I am not a fan of asking other people for help, but we are in a situation that has been difficult to dig ourselves out of, and we would appreciate any help or prayers for help. I have had  alot of people praying for me during this journey, and I can't tell you what it means to know that all those people are thinking of me and wishing all the best!

My name is Amy Wadsworth, and I have been on dialysis now for 2 1/2 years. Chronic Kidney Disease came after a series of difficult illnesses and hospitalizations. I am diabetic, and have also been treated for Retinopathy, and am still considered Legally Blind. I also developed a condition called Gastroparesis, which is paralysis of the muscles that allow the stomach to empty, which causes very severe nausea and vomiting. I suffered from Gastroparesis beginning in 2011, but was not diagnosed until 2013, and my condition continued to worsen as we sought various treatment options. I was incredibly sick, and hospitalized over 60 times in the course of those years, and continual dehydration led to damage and the ultimate failure of my kidneys. Even after starting dialysis in November of 2018, the Gastroparesis continued to cause many issues, along with the side effects of dialysis. We finally were able to find a good solution for my Gastroparesis in February of 2020, and those symptoms are now mostly controlled, and I was finally able to be approved to receive a kidney transplant, so I am now officially on the waiting list, as well as seeking out possible live donors who might be willing to donate a kidney to me. In the meantime, we are hoping to raise some funds to help with the expenses associated with a transplant - my husband will have to take time off work to be with me when I have the transplant, and for at least a few weeks after the surgery, and he will not receive any income during that time, so we are looking to raise some money to help through that time, which could be a month, or even more if there are complications. We are also looking into holding some kind of local fundraising event, so money raised here may also be used to pay expenses for that event.
