An engine for MV Geordie
Hello,
My name is Peter Knowles, and I have undertaken the restoration MV Geordie, a 1953 38 foot wooden motor cruiser, while I live aboard in Victoria, BC, Canada. My plan is to cruise the Pacific Northwest, then truck the boat to the Great Lakes and cruise America's Great Loop. I aim to eventually ship the boat to Europe to explore its great rivers and canals.
The restoration has been a joy in so many ways, but for the engine. The original engine was knackered, and I have faced many challenges in my attempts to deal with repowering. I have been hoping against all hope that I could solve this inexpensively.
I have finally accepted that if I want to do this right it's going to cost money, more than I can manage.
It is with great humility and trepidation that I reach out in this way, to ask for your help to crowd fund a portion of the project. I'd like to imagine it could be micro-funded. With as little as a dollar per individual view of one episode of the show, we would be there.
I am aiming to purchase a Beta Marine 60 HP marine diesel with PRM 280 transmission.
I've done a great deal of research and design to arrive at this selection, and I'm very confident it is the right choice.
The retail cost is approximately $20,000 CDN, of which I will manage half. A portion of this half will include a generous contribution by the local Canadian Beta Marine distributor, Gartside Marine.
While there are several options for crowd funding, I have chosen GoFundMe because of the transparency it provides. This page will display continuous updates on the progress of the campaign.
I acknowledge that I have a generous viewer base who is already supporting me. These supporters will have a brass plaque mounted to the bulkhead of MV Geordie. Similarly, I will create a special, repower campaign brass plate with the names of every donation of $20 or more to this campaign, which will be permanently mounted inside the helm station lid. I will cherish these reminders of the generous support and appreciation that the community has shown to the boat and to myself.
Thank you all so very much,
Peter Knowles
