AN ORZO FAMILY MEMBER NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Dear Orzo Fans,

Charles and I are reaching out on behalf of a dear Orzo family member who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is receiving a double mastectomy at the University of Virginia Medical Center today.

Gloria Estela Vasquez joined the Orzo family ten years ago and has been prepping the ingredients that go into so many of your favorite dishes for the last decade.  She cleans the mussels, roasts the vegetables, shaves the garlic, cleans the lettuce, picks the herbs and so, so much more.  She is invaluable to the smooth operation of the Orzo kitchen, and our chefs are feeling her absence already.   

Gloria is the epitome of strength and resiliency. Born in San Rafael Cedro Cuscatlan, El Salvador in 1973, Gloria escaped her abusive father at the age of 7 and lived with her older sister until she came to the United States in 2006, the year that Orzo opened!  She joined the Orzo family in 2013 and is the second longest tenured employee, behind only by Chef Adam Spaar.  She is a single mother of three children and has one beautiful granddaughter.

Gloria is incurring immense financial strain due to the surgery and treatment and an inability to work for upwards of six weeks while she convalesces at home.  It will be a long road to recovery, but Gloria is a fighter and has already overcome so much in her life.  

   

We will be bringing her delicious and nutritious meals from the Orzo kitchen throughout her recovery so she can focus on getting well and see familiar faces, but she needs more help.
