An unexpected twist for the Gutierrez Family
Donation protected
I unexpectedly had invasive emergency surgery after experiencing severe stomach pains, vomiting, chills and a high fever on Sunday evening. It turned out to be a severe bowel obstruction (the literal unexpected twist) that required the reconstruction of my intestines and a nasogastric tube etched down my throat to pump my stomach of excess acid and fluids. I am now safely out of surgery and in recovery at the hospital on bed rest with physical therapy and home restrictions afterward for the next 2-6 weeks.
Over 15 years ago, I experienced an even more severe bowel obstruction that was nearly fatal. This current obstruction was a result of scar tissue build-up from that surgery and my small intestine being blocked and twisted on itself.
The timing couldn't have been more perfect (insert sarcasm here) as I navigate: taking care of my mom after her own surgery, a wife still undergoing weekly preventative treatment for cancer, work, home responsibilities, and caring for our infant son.
This turn of unexpected events is causing our family to spend extra money getting daily and nightly childcare coverage for our baby so Nora can visit, dog support, cooking, cleaning, new additional medical expenses and other bills. This is all taking place just as I was expected to start a new opportunity to provide additional income support for my family after losing my wife's salary due to her medical condition. We believe, despite the circumstances, that God's sovereignty, love, and support is with us. We know that we are not alone and can get through this as we work together as a family under God trusting His plan for our lives.
In addition, we are navigating plans to have my father-in-law fly into help and work with others to obtain support. My healing might take some time to get me up and running again, but I am working hard to recover soon. Some have asked about ways to contribute or help...if you feel led to help lighten the load and would like to give we are using this small GoFund Me to assist with some of these unexpected expenses.
There is NO pressure to give, I know many have given to help with my wife’s medical expenses. That being said, we are appreciative of anything offered and above all else ask for continued prayer...
