Nursing Internship to Haiti
Donation protected
Hello Family and Friends,
As most of you know I’m pursuing a bachelor’s in nursing at the Denver School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. What you might not know is that I’ve joined an extracurricular club called Global Health Perspectives (GHP). While becoming an active member by going to meetings and volunteering, I have discovered my passion for community outreach. Over the past year, I have been involved with multiple organizations in the Denver area allowing me to give back to the community. One organization is the Brandon Center which shelters homeless/ battered women and their children. My involvement is child care allowing the mothers to attend GED, life skills, and parenting classes. I’m also an instructor for a fall prevention class called A Matter of Balance. This program is for older adults focusing on education about fall risk, prevention, and cognitive restructuring. This evidence based program has proved to decrease stigmas pertaining to aging and allowing them to live happy, healthy, and independent lives. While these two organizations have been my main focus I’ve also volunteered for: A Walk with the Doc, Ronald McDonald House, and AfricAide. Considering how rewarding community outreach has been for me I decided to go even further to pursue global outreach.
This quarter I committed to applying for a service learning internship through GHP to challenge my nursing skills while giving back to people in need. So after many volunteer hours and grueling application and interview process, in which I competed against 30 qualified applicants, I was selected as one of the four students going to Haiti in September! I will be going to Jacmel, Haiti assisting with Love Takes Root, a foundation whose goals are to improve the lives of children through the provisions of shelter, education, and health. I will also be traveling to Les Cayes were the Espwa Orphanage provides food and shelter for 500 children but who are in desperate need of basic medical care. I will also be assisting with health care and nurse education at the birthing center of Maison de Naissance.
I’m now humbly asking for your help to raise $2200 by July 30th! All funds raised will go towards flights, housing, most meals, and medical outreach supplies. Any additional money raised will go towards the foundations in Haiti. Please remember that every small contribution is a great help! I will continue to keep you updated with any information and as well as when I return from this amazing experience!
Please help me in my endeavor in pursuing this once in a life time opportunity,
I appreciate your kind hearts and generosity!
