Brain Aneurysm - Ann Flores [Road to Recovery]
Donation protected
Ana Flores is a 71-year-old loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who moved from Guam to Oklahoma City in 2016. On May 18, 2019, she experienced a sudden, excruciating, and overwhelming headache; of which she was immediately taken to the emergency room. Upon arriving, the doctors discovered that she was experiencing a ruptured brain aneurysm; her brain was bleeding, and they were losing her fast. She was placed in ICU and scheduled for emergency surgery the following morning, exactly one week from Mother's Day (see photo above). Unfortunately, she would experience two more surgeries, two more months in ICU care, and a bleak outlook.
In addition to rehabilitation, a financial and logistical burden was placed upon her. Our family has been informed that her Medicare coverage only covers 20 days of rehab care, and Tricare will cover the copay (up to 80 days) or until they decide to discharge her from the Rehab Facility and sent home (Update). Unfortunately, she has no children currently residing in the state of Oklahoma to take her in and properly care for her before insurance runs out.
She has four sons, Junior and David, who are currently active duty military serving in other states; and Richard and Brandon, living on Guam. Due to her condition, she is not healthy enough to fly and be with her children. As a result, her children are desperately trying to set up accommodations for Ann before her coverage expires. The total cost of one month of Skilled Nursing Care accumulates to approximately $5,310 per month, and the neurologist has determined it could take a full year to recover.
In sum, we humbly ask your assistance to help Ann and her family cover three months of medical expenses in the Skilled Nursing and Rehab facility until she is strong enough to relocate to loved ones or the request for her son's military humanitarian assignment is approved.
Ann is a special woman who is always thinking of others, helping whenever and wherever help is needed no matter the personal cost to her. She is known to light up the room and is always ready to make people smile! She has a heart of gold and loves the Lord. She lost her late husband in 2012, and her oldest daughter in 2014, both from cancer. Nevertheless, we take comfort in her response to the family upon encouraging her to continue to fight to get better, where she responded, “I promise. I will.” God gave her a second chance at life, and we humbly ask family, friends, acquaintances and good Samaritans to help Ann keep her promise to her family!
Thank and God Bless
Week 1 after Surgery - Fighting Strong!
16 July 2019 - A Surprise visit from Cousin Mary!
Update: After two months in ICU, by defeating the odds of surviving a deadly aneurysm, she was able to overcome the ventilator and trach. Ann is now able to talk in short sentences and could move her limbs. She is still on the feeding tube and still bounded to the bed, but she is working hard every day to strengthen her body. We thank you all for your support and prayers!
