Anacortes Family sponsored Ukrainian Family

We have been blessed with a young Ukrainian family's arrival in town.

Meet Viacheslav  Slava and his Wife Kseniia 

They have a wonderful daughter who was able to get into Anacortes schools in time for kindergarten.

Their Story is fascinating, as Slava was working in Poland just four days before the attack on Ukraine and

Sucia recently learned to drive 6 months prior.

Day of Attack, from my understanding. The Russian troops came west across the bridge into Kerson and blew up the building that was once where Sucia worked as a lawyer and slava back then as a legal assistant, I believe that was before Slava became a Police Officer. Non the less at that time, Sucia had called Slava in Poland, letting him know what was happening. They quickly concluded to leave for the Poland border to meet. (Poland was over 300 kilometers away & Sucia never drove out of their town). Within minutes Sucia gathered some basics for a bag, the car keys and their 5yr old and headed NW to Poland. With both parents keeping in touch as much as possible. Still Sucia and their daughter had to wait 3 days to get across the border. over the next few days while waiting, the girls had to stay in their car tucked away as some unsavory individuals through the days would bag on the car- try to force the doors open. (pretty traumatic stuff). Luckily the third day they were able to get across to reunite their young family. Over the next 3 month they got their paper work for America. God Bless that one of our Residence in Anacortes would sign as a sponsor so they could be allowed to come to our slice of paradise. Hands down the best community ever.

Now in Anacortes we have been coming together as a community to help where we can. Slava is a hard worker, very presentable and respectful. Hes helped with my landscaping. I also had Slava help me on a large property, and the agent and clients were pleased with our team and performance. (He presents well in uniform).

So as he waits for his work visa to come through, a small group of us have tried to keep him busy. But we're getting low on supplemental finances; The couple did get signed up for state medical and assistance. Also, one of the residents in town has let them borrow a car to gain their independence started, take the kids to school, and get side jobs.

The war and decisions had happened in such a short amount of time that finally, the dust has begun to settle and we are doing what we can to help. God bless their sponsor he's done the right thing, but his finances alone and the little money Slava can bring in to support his family have squeezed both parties thin. They arrived with only a couple of bags and a small backpack of personnel belongings and will be

starting from scratch. Slava and his family had left the world they knew behind in an instant.

A month ago, I made a next-door post about them looking for an affordable car, and our community poured out so much love and compassion. It was requested to hear more of their story and suggested I start a go fund -me for our neighborhood Ukrainian refugees. The funds will help assist in getting them each a small wardrobe so they have more than two outfits each. And get them staged to get a small rental (first , last and security) as soon as Slavas work visa comes through.

Ive asked around for what a good number for our goal, and with calculation would be about 7k but there's taxes and services charges and other items im sure im not even thinking about.

Still, Slava is looking to earn what he can so if you have some small jobs hes willing to help. We will keep more posted on next door.
