Anam's Journey: Battling Leukemia at 7

Dear Friends and Family,

My name is Mir Khan and it is with a heavy heart that I am setting up a fundraiser for my 7-year-old niece, Anam Khan, who was diagnosed with leukemia on the 15th of January.

Just a week before her diagnosis, she was running around, going to school, eating what kids love, playing with her two sisters, aged 10 and 5, and doing the normal things that children do. A few bruises started showing up over her body the next few days, with breathing issues resulting in blood tests leading to extremely low blood platelets and white blood cells. This further led to all kinds of testing, including bone marrow biopsy, blood smear, virus tests, flow cytometry, etc., before being diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a parent's worst nightmare.

Everyone’s life changed, especially the little one who has now been going through all kinds of procedures and testing on a daily basis, such as spinal taps and central line insertion to her heart—terms we had never heard before. The toughest and most emotional part is that the little one has no idea what is going on and why all of this is being done to her; she just wants to go home.

The oncologist and doctors have informed us that this will be a 2-year treatment, provided no complications occur, followed by a 3-year bi-monthly observational hospital admission. If there was any indication of how emotionally painful the last few days have been, we have been devastated by what Anam and her family will have to go through in the coming months—a challenging road ahead, both emotionally and financially.

We are reaching out to our family and friends for any contributions during these difficult times that would allow them to cover medical expenses, including treatments, consultations, living costs, etc. Any form of contribution will help ease some of the burden on Anam’s family and, more importantly, ensure Anam gets the recovery attention she needs. Even prayers are generously appreciated.
