Let's get Anaphylaxis Kits into all our local schools
Donation protected
Hi we are Simone and Harry. Together we have been journeying the world of nut allergy and anaphylaxis for almost 10 years. Harry is soon to be 11 and he experienced his first anaphylaxis at 10 months old, and his second anaphylaxis at 10 years old (July 2024).
As a specialist healthcare professional in cancer care I have witnessed countless episodes of anaphylaxis due to chemotherapy, and nothing prepares you for seeing your child experiencing anaphylaxis.
We are on a mission to raise allergy awareness within all our local schools and to raise funds to provide Kitt Medical Anaphylaxis Kits to as many schools as possible.
These kits are "like a defibrillator for allergies" with the added bonus of allergy awareness training and anaphylaxis training.
Navigating the world of safe storage of medication in school is complex and of course there has to be policies in place to prevent other children coming into contact with medication. In reality this could mean a delay for a child or adult who really needs emergency medication at speed in an emergency like anaphylaxis.
And whilst many of our local schools are "nut free" like ours, there are many other allergens that a child could come into contact with within a school environment which may result in anaphylaxis, aren't there?
Speed and fast access to epipens is one thing that could save a child's life. The other is allergy awareness!
I believe that no child with an allergy lives in an allergy free world or allergy free bubble, and improving allergy awareness amongst all teaching staff and pupils is vital.
You never know when or where a child you know may have an allergic reaction and require an epipen, do you?
What I DO know is that you would expect allergy aware staff or pupils and fast access to epipens. Allergy awareness is so much more than knowing how to react and administer an epipen!
So, we are raising funds for kitt medical anaphylaxis kits and allergy awareness training for as many of our local schools as possible. Children's allergy is on the rise, so let's start to make our schools a safer place to be now.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your help, whether it is £10 or £1, every pound makes a difference, doesn't it?
