Anchorage Black Femme Fund
Donation protected
This fund will directly go into the pockets of Black Femmes in Anchorage, Alaska. It will go towards whatever they need, no matter what it may be. Black femmes are disregarded in media, at work, and in life while their overwhelming grief is being silenced. This fundraiser will be used as back up. To give cushion and safety from slipping between the cracks systemic oppression has built to throw them in. It is important to take care of and love Black people while they are here and alive, not after they have been taken from this world.
This is a personal attempt to redistribute wealth to people who are experiencing racism that directly effects their livelihoods.
Above all else, Black Lives Matter.
My name is Rae Young and I'm a white passing indigenous person. Knowing that Black community members in Anchorage are being disregarded and forgotten while causes out of state are being given more funds than the money circulating here and going towards supporting our Black community should not sit right with any of us. The funds from these donations are going to go to Black womxn/femmes in Anchorage that are experiencing state sanctioned racism that they have been subjected to their entire lives. The reason I've decided to keep the recipients names anonymous is because no one should expect Black womxn to have their suffering exploited in their communities to force said community to come together and support them. Black womxn make as little as 47 cents to the dollar as their average white male counterparts which means they are working 2-3 times harder JUST to put food on their tables and to pay their bills. It should not be their job to fundraise for themselves and have all of their information out in the world to get rejected over and over based on what people deem "acceptably black." Getting money into the hands of Black womxn nourishes them, secures them, and overall helps them lead better lives. Imagine a world where Black Femmes are cherished, supported, and loved. Where we hold each other accountable in our White privilege and everything that brings to us and takes away from Black people around us.
I will personally be taking money to the recipients myself as I don't want their money being effected by overdrawn accounts or anything else that could not allow them to fully utilize the funds they deserve.
