Support Mark's Stroke Recovery Journey
Donation protected
As many of you know, Mark had a stroke on the morning of July 7, 2024 and was rushed by helicopter to Medical Center of the Rockies that morning. He had procedure to remove clots in both his brain and his carotid artery later that day. He spent several days in the ICU and has now stepped down out of the ICU. He is getting a little better each day but communication remains a challenge. He is currently not able to speak or use the hospital provided letter board to form words to communicate. Fortunately, Mark has retained motor function on both sides of his body, although he still has some weakness on one side. The long-term effects of the stroke on his brain are still unknown.
The hope is for Mark to transition to rehab in a few weeks and ultimately return home to Rachael and Salem in the next 4-6 weeks. Unfortunately, the family will have to move into a first-floor apartment in order to make getting in and out of the apartment easier for Mark. This means breaking their lease and coming up with the significant funds they need (first/last month's rent, security deposit, moving expenses, necessary medical equipment) to make a move like this happen. Mark is also uninsured, and the medical bills for this hospital stay, rehab, and ongoing care will be substantial.
That is where we come in. We are setting up this GoFundMe to help this wonderful family pay for their move and to help with the upcoming bills they'll incur to get Mark the care he needs. If you know Mark, Rachael, and Salem you know what wonderful, caring, funny, and talented people they are. They have given so much to our community-- it's time now for us to give back to them.
No donation is too small. Please know how much Rachael and Salem appreciate all of the support they've received-- every meal, every donation, every call or text matters.
We will do our best to post updates on Mark's condition as we get them.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
