Shelby's Story

Hi, I'm Carol Spencer, and I am very proud to be Shelby Hatfield's Grandmother. My beautiful grandaughter Shelby is 16 years old and is a Junior at the Keytesville High School.

Shelby was in a terrible car accident on November 10, 2023.

She was flown from near Lake Nehai to the Univerisity of Missouri in Columbia via a Life Flight Helicopter. In the accident she suffered 5 broken verterbrae, 6 broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken shoulder, two punctures in her lung and 1 broken knee cap.

Shelby was in ICU for several days and then in the rehabilitation center for several days. She had 3 major surgeries, including two 6 hour surgeries, one on her spine and the other on her shoulder and collar bone.

Shelby's parents Cara and Jerry Hatfield missed many days of work during this period to be by Shelby's side.
