Andrea & Anaya
Donation protected
On Wednesday night, September 21, Andrea and her daughter Anaya were involved in a terrible hit-and-run car accident on their way home from shopping at Target for a birthday gift. Both have sustained serious injuries that will require medical care for the foreseeable future but thank God they are both alive.
Their vehicle - now completely totaled - was hit almost head-on. At the last moment, Andrea turned it to bear the brunt of the impact and spare her daughter. This impact has left Andrea with a shattered ankle, a broken arm and a fractured eye socket. She has had one surgery to place rods in her ankle and arm; surgery on her eye is to be determined and could be needed sometime in the future. Anaya sustained mild fractures to her spine and may need to wear a brace.
There is partial insurance coverage for them but the care they will need will not be fully covered. They are looking at hospital bills including paramedics and surgeries, long-term care including physical and occupational therapies, follow-up doctors appointments, co-pays and medical equipment expenses.
In addition to the ongoing medical care, they are now without a car until a claim is worked out which could be difficult if the other driver is not found. They will need funds toward Ubers/ Lyfts, ride-sharing, delivery services, groceries and other living essentials.
Andrea & Anaya currently have an upstairs apartment which will be too difficult to stay in while they heal, due to the stair-climbing required. When released from the hospital, the plan is for them to stay with family members who live locally, but for now, the doctors are recommending that Andrea goes to a rehab facility before moving in with any family. Regardless, there will be expenses associated with getting both of them set up to recover successfully wherever they land for care. (Because Andrea's arm and leg injuries are on opposite sides, she may need a wheelchair and will have to learn to safely balance on a quad cane for simple tasks like using the restroom.)
This is just the start of a long road to recovery for this incredible duo. As many of you know, Andrea has just taken on a new job as CEO of a non-profit, and until now was hustling at her other jobs which included the law firm and running her bakery. At this time, it is not clear how much she will be able to work in the near future, so our support will make a huge difference!
Anaya is a senior in high school and will experience disruptions to her everyday life due to her recovery, as you would expect. She is strong like her mama though, and with your help, we know they will persevere. Andrea is thankful for all of your good wishes. She is full of faith and knows God will provide, just like he kept them safe from further harm in this accident.
Please continue to pray for both of them and consider donating toward these expenses! Share with your friends & family on your social networks, too. Let's spread the word and get them the support they need.
