Anyone who knows Andrea Roche knows she would give you her last dollar, her time, her caring words, and her deep compassion for all people (and rescued greyhounds). It’s likely she has supported you, hugged you, cried with you, advocated for you, ferried your children somewhere, organised you, or laughed outrageously loud with you.
On 3 February Andrea had an aneurysm which resulted with her falling unconsciousness soon after. Scans at the hospital showed the bleeding on her brain was not operable and tragically, that she would not recover. Andrea passed on Wednesday 5th February 2025. Andrea was always a strong advocate of organ donation and it is so Andrea that her final acts in this world are to share the last of what she has, right to the end.
Her family is in shock right now and has requested space to try and understand what has happened, and an update will be made public when the family is ready.
We are calling on the incredible Margaret River community and friends and family around the world to rally, to support them in any way they can as we have one of our dearest families facing the tragic loss of their mother.
She has initiated and followed through on so many community projects and supports, running the Australian Breastfeeding Association meetings when her children were small, support groups for young women navigating womanhood and has often rallied the attendance of many for any local environmental events, walks and initiatives. She coordinates a food co-op which helps to make bulk foods more affordable for families and as a matriarch of the homeschooling community, Andrea has created countless extracurricular opportunities for many Margs kids.
She recently returned from the Underwater Hockey National Championships in Ballarat, supporting her children and their teams with stellar results. Her 8 seater car, and her home, always full of any kids who needed a ride or a place to be.
Her loss will be felt keenly in each of us and across a large community of family and friends. Now it's our turn to return the favour to support Mark and the kids through the years ahead.
In the immediate future our fundraising efforts will help with bills and a memorial service - an added stress they don't need right now. Beyond this there are many life events to support the family through, so they can go on enjoying life in a way that we know Andrea would want.
All of your contributions will be gratefully received.
***UPDATE*** An enormous, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We have reached the initial fundraising target, but will keep this open as news reaches Andrea's enormous network of friends and family. With much gratitude, Jodie, Sophie and Samara.
