Andrea’s Head Shaving Fundraiser

On Saturday the 15th of July, I Shaved my Head in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, Breakthrough Cancer Research Cork and Brú Columbalus Cork.

I am only on the beginning of my Cancer Journey but these Charities and Societies have been extremely helpful to me and my family so far. The Irish Cancer Society has provided so much support, help and guidance to us about our options and just general help in looking after our wellbeing. I would have always had a huge interest in the research and development of science and to be able to help improve the facilities or trials for future cancer research would really mean a lot to me. That is why I chose to donate some money to Breakthrough Cancer Research Cork. The Brú Columbanus is an amazing service available to people that have patients staying in CUH, my mom has been staying there since I have been diagnosed and we would like to raise money for them as a thank you for their service.

On Friday the 30th of June I got diagnosed with Cancer in several parts of my body. As I am a young, fit, strong, 21 year old girl, the doctors decided to go with an aggressive approach with chemotherapy and radiation therapy for me. Which I am currently undergoing. I am very positive and truly believe I will beat this and come out stronger the other side of this whole journey. However, hair loss is inevitable. I wanted to take control and shave my own hair off and not let cancer take that from me. That is why I chose to do this Fundraiser in the hopes to make an impact and something positive out of this whole situation.
