I have created this GoFundMe for my beloved husband of 28 years, Andrew Michael Budinsky. My best friend of 33 years whom I deeply love and forever the love of my life, collapsed on January 26, 2015 at around 4 p.m. Unexpectedly, he suffered a full cardiac arrest with a diagnosis of an anoxic brain injury. A very healthy guy, doing volunteer work in our parish, going to the gym, being a Mr. Mom and now, he’s paralyzed and can’t even eat through the mouth. He was in a coma for over two weeks after being frozen to prevent any further brain damage. When the doctor suggested pulling the plug, I went back to my husband’s room and God gave me His answer. My husband who was in a coma, started to cry—tears flowing on his cheeks. There’s always a saying, “God will not give you anything that you can’t handle”. God is great and he’s still here. By April 2015, his insurance declined to pay, leaving me with a $20,000 bill each month. He has had a very slow recovery, as expected because his brain during the collapsed suffered a lot of damage. But speech, occupational and physical therapy were not the facility’s priority. Their reasoning was he’s not responding quickly enough because there were other patients who needed their help much more than him. Soon, his fingers got contracted that they couldn’t bend. His arms and legs couldn’t move. It was difficult to change his clothes, let alone change his diapers. A Eucharistic Minister would come and see him during her visit and every time she would see him, she would complain that his face was so red, mucus overflowing his shirt and hard to breathe at the activity room and no one else came to help him out. After months of being told no, finally, on December 23, 2016, I brought him home. I was so delighted, rejuvenated that even with his feeding tube, his stoma and couldn’t move – he’s here with my son and me. But the cost has been exuberating to say the least. His state Medi-Cal was cancelled after a month of being home. Caregiver's salary goes around $7,200 a month plus his incontinence supplies, not counting the transportation fees. I will do everything I can to make it better for my husband, to ensure that he has a place call “home” and not the facility. Please any donation is really appreciated. It will help tremendously in his process.
A small bit of how Andrew enjoyed spending his time before the accident:
· He retired from Pacific Bell in 2001.
· He became the “Mr. Mom” for my son, Matthew.
· He volunteered his hours for our church at St. Rose of Lima Church and became one of the Knights of Columbus members.
· Prior to this, he wanted to be a Eucharistic Minister, but he did not get a chance.
