Andrew McCarthy - Life Care & Medical #3
Donation protected
In under 3 weeks time I will be walking for 24hrs to raise funds for my brother Andrew. This is a recognised national running event, but after 2 ankle surgeries in the last 12 months and still unable to run without discomfort, I will be walking the 24 hrs. I would like to acknowledge Dr Scott Newman, the Orthopaedic Surgeon who operated both times on my ankle. Dr Newman works out of Norwest and Wahroonga, highly recommended.
Please read my story below.
My brother Andrew was born on the 22nd December 1981, with his identical twin Patrick.

Andrew and his twin brother, Patrick with his tongue out.
Andrew was born with Hydrocephalus which when broken down means fluid (hydro) on the brain (cephalus).
Surgeons placed a shunt in Andrew's head which drains fluid leaking from Andrew's brain. Andrew's shunt is still in place and continues to keep him alive today.
Andrew's condition caused many lifetime medical complications, even to this day.
Andrew was only a couple of days old when surgeons wanted to perform an Angiogram on him, this procedure requires a coloured dye being injected into his bloodstream, so the surgeons could detect where the issue in Andrew's brain was located.
This procedure almost killed Andrew.
Andrew started convulsions for a number of days as a result of the Angiogram.

Andrew receiving physio while walking through a frame.
Andrew spent the first 6 months of his life in The Children's Hospital, which at that time was located in Camperdown Sydney.

Andrew was predominantly a happy young child.
Andrew now aged 39 years, lives with our parents in a small unit in Blacktown. My mum (Marlene) and dad (Patrick) are aged 77 and 80 respectively.

Dad, Andrew and Mum.
Our mum is predominantly Andrew's sole carer. Mum has since Andrew's birth fed Andrew, bathed Andrew, carried and lifted Andrew, toileted Andrew and pushed his wheelchair many many thousand of hours on end at times just to keep Andrew entertained.
I'm a realist, I understand that my parents, mainly my mother will not be able to carry on for ever doing her Super Natural Efforts for Andrew, whether due to her age or in the inevitable life event when her time is up.
Welcome to this Go Fund Me pages, titled Andrew McCarthy - Life Care & Medical #3.

Andrew and me.
On Friday 26th March 2021 I will be walking for 24 hrs straight at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
My plan is to use this event to raise funds for Andrew's Living, Life and Medical, when our parents are not able to care for Andrew any more.
Please, if you can help by donation and sharing with family and friends, my family will never forget.
