Andrew MacKay
Donation protected
Our friend art colleague Andrew MacKay recently experienced a significant blood infection that has resulted in a traumatic change in his life. The infection, which required extensive surgery, was so severe that he had to be taken by helicopter to the Owen Sound Hospital where for 6 days he was in a medically induced coma. During this time, his mother Johanne MacKay suffered a heart attack, complicated by phenomena, and peacefully passed away at the age of 68 on October 11th, 2022.
Andrew, Supervisor, Facilities and Property Services at Woodbine Mohawk Park is the primary caregiver to his family. His sister is recovering from a long bout of cancer and due to retina surgery is unable to drive. She relied on the assistance of others to get to her brother and mother's bedside during this time, often travelling for hours. His brother Brent is a little person, who requires regular doctor appointments and up until her death, his mom required care after suffering 4 strokes since the loss of her husband almost 9 years ago.
Andrew, now at the Chesley Hospital, faces a long road to recovery. He will have a regimented physiotherapy plan, will require multiple skin grafts at hospitals out of the area and will need to continue to support his family who do not have Andrew to drive them to the much-needed medical appointments they need.
Andrew is a true inspiration providing for his family and unselfishly dedicating himself to the needs of others. During this uncertain time for the Mackay's, we ask you to donate to this fund to help with the additional medical expenses, renovations required for main floor accessibility and transportation for his sister and brother to medical appointments, grocery stores and to visit their brother who will be hospitalized for an unknown period of time.
We thank you for your generous support.
