Help Andrew Stern get back to making a difference

Some of you know my brother as Andrew, others maybe even as Drew, but for me, he will always be Andy...and Andy needs our help. As most of you are aware, Andy has spent his entire adult life working as hard as he could to make a difference for others. He was always very selective of the jobs he took, and as a result, they all shared the common thread of working toward social justice. He even left a secure job because he felt his presence was standing in the way of a new leadership team that might better represent that cause. It has never been about him and has always been about others.

As I was looking through photos of him this evening, that was made even more clear. In one, he is on a Board supporting gay youth, in another he is at a pro-choice rally, then I see him working to turn out the vote, and in yet another I see him at a Broadway Cares event. And anyone who has ever met him knows that he's come close to singlehandedly keeping Broadway afloat. He's worked for Gay Men's Health Crisis and for the National Institute for Reproductive Health. He's been everything from a volunteer to a Board member, to a Chief Operating Officer...and always working toward a more just world.

That was the impetus, almost four years ago, when he decided to form his own business, Inheritance Consulting, with the goal of assisting nonprofits in fulfilling their missions. He left a secure position thinking he could have even more impact. Unfortunately, his timing couldn't have been worse as it started right before COVID hit. While still hoping his business can recover, he has also worked tirelessly to try and find work...many of you may even have seen his emails, asking for leads and contacts. His CV is a testimony to his passion, caring, and leadership capacity but it's yet to result in a job. This simple fact has now cost him everything. Andy has run out of all his savings, is in debt, and now even faces eviction from the apartment he has lived in for the past 20 years. The stress he has been under is costing him his health and may now take his home in as little as a few weeks. He needs all of us...and NOW!

Please let Andy know you are there for him in the same way he has been there for many of you...friends, colleagues, mentees, political associates, and former clients...please let Andy know you care. That's what he's done throughout his life. You already know that once he's back on his feet he will pay all of your kindnesses forward to the next person in need, many times over.
