Andrew's Campaign for Long Way Home, Inc
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit the non-profit I work with, Long Way Home. Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me!
Project Summary
On December 3rd, 2019, Long Way Home (LWH) raised over $8,000 for the construction of a cafeteria at their school, Tecnico Chixot. Tecnico Chixot is LWH’s flagship institution which gives full time employment to 40 teachers, administrators, and builders, and provides schooling to over 150 students (1st to 11th).
The funds needed for the construction of the cafeteria have nearly been raised, but we still need to complete the project! Help me raise $2,000 to get down there and add the final touches to the building, furnish the cafeteria with a refrigerator, tables and chairs, and other kitchen appliances to ensure the students and teachers at Tecnico Chixot have a safe and healthy place to enjoy their meals.
Total amount
$2,000 – if reached, 100% of the goal will go directly to LWH. Additional funds raised will be used for the rewards, many of which will be provided by local community members, allowing the funds to be invested directly into the Comalapa community. Textiles will be provided by Tecnico Chixot teacher and seamstress, Nancy and original paintings will be created by Roberto Peren, son of famous painter, Oscar Peren.
If $2,000 goal is reached and additional funds are raised, the funds will support me in going back to Guatemala to work on the project. Funds will be used for flights, transport to school location, room and board, and LWH volunteer fees.

More info on Long Way Home
Long Way Home (LWH) is a registered US 501(c)3 non-profit that promotes education, employment, and environmental stewardship through sustainable design and construction of self-sufficient schools. The organization’s mission is to empower communities to break the poverty cycle through innovative solutions to local challenges. Matt Paneitz, the founder and executive director of LWH, started this grassroots organization in 2005 as a return Peace Corp volunteer with less than $5,000. Since then, LWH has grown immensely, raising over $2,500,000 for the project as of the time of writing (January 2020); all while focusing on local participation, reinvesting into the community, and the triple bottom line of positive social, environmental, and economic impact.

From the Executive Director
“All funds raised support the construction and administration of our green built campus, the Centro Educativo Técnico Chixot, in San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala. Gifts of all sizes make an impact. We pledge to keep administrative costs low so that more of your money goes directly into education, construction materials and local salaries. Thank you for your confidence. With your help we are closer to realizing our vision - communities equipped to innovate and act responsibly in the face of local and global challenges! Our students at the Centro Educativo Técnico Chixot are forming a new generation of entrepreneurs, uniquely equipped to lead their communities into a just and healthy future. We are grateful for your support! Thank you!”

About me
My name is Andrew. I am a graduate student at the University of Florida, studying tropical conservation and development. I am most interested in creative, sustainable solutions to the many problems facing our planet and the people who live on it. My current research focuses on waste management and sustainable construction. In summer 2019, I interned with Long Way Home, learning the principles of green construction and the many daily operations of an NGO in a developing context. Join me in my mission to make the world cleaner, more just and sustainable.
With support of the executive director, Matt Paneitz, a small portion of the funds raised will go toward funding a fight to Guatemala to help construct the cafeteria. All expenses will be reported to both the organization and the public for full transparency.
