Andrew’s Expenses Living With Chronic Illness

Donation protected
My name is Meaghan and I am hoping to raise some funds to help my partner Andrew pay his medical bills and living expenses after a two week hospitalization from Friday, June 23rd 2023 until Saturday, July 8th 2023 as well as help to fund his continued care.

Andrew suffers from a few chronic health conditions including Cystic Fibrosis, CF-related diabetes and now CKD (chronic kidney disease). These illnesses have complicated his life considerably over the years, including causing severe illness and hospitalizations from time to time. This most recent hospitalization was due to the fact that he went into acute kidney failure, a complication of his other life-threatening health conditions. It was an incredibly scary time for us, as we weren’t sure his kidneys were going to continue functioning at all.

Thankfully his kidney function has stabilized for now, although progression of his chronic kidney disease is unfortunately inevitable. We are controlling it as best we can at home with new medications, treatments and specialist doctors he must continue care with.

As I’m sure you all can imagine, the hospital bills, new specialist appointments and medications are all extremely expensive on top of our regular monthly living expenses. We will need help to afford all of it at this time, especially considering we have both been out of work since he was hospitalized at the end of June. He has been out of work due to his illness and I have been out of work in order to stay with him in the hospital and be his caretaker when we came home from the hospital. We are just glad to be home with our cats and that his condition seems to have stabilized for now. Anything anyone can contribute to help us during this time would be greatly appreciated.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Andrew has had a follow up appointment with his nephrologist and it is unfortunately not good news. He is in late stage (stage 4) kidney failure and the doctor predicts in about 6-12 months time he will need to begin dialysis treatments. Andrew was referred to a transplant team as of today (July 18th, 2023), and will be starting to undergo the process of finding a donor kidney. The best case outcome of this is that he receives a kidney transplant. The transplant would be complicated by the fact that he also has Cystic Fibrosis and therefore has a higher risk of contracting lung infections post-surgery. There are going to be many different teams of doctors collaborating on this in order to save his life.

Andrew is a fighter. He wants to live. He is an absolutely beautiful human being with so much passion and it hurts me to see him in pain and completely sapped of energy. I want to see him make it through this and get back to his life. I want my adventure partner back. Please help me get him through this. We need the help now more than ever, and if y’all will see us through this process we will be forever grateful.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and to those who will donate.
