Andrzej's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
On November 12th, 2015 Andrzej Holub of London Ontario had a very bad accident and suffered a severe spinal cord injury. The injury happened at Rondeau Provincial Park and if it wasn't for the quick thinking of a fellow windsurfer, Ken Schmitt, he would not have survived.
The injury has left Andrzej paralyzed from the waist down. Doctors have given him a very small chance of ever walking again but anyone that has ever met Andrzej knows he is a very strong individual physically and mentally and the hope is that he can prove the doctors wrong as many in his situation have before him.
The spinal cord injury was only the beginning of Andrzej's problems when arriving at Victoria Hospital in London. The fall also tore a small hole in one of the valves in his aorta. Fortunately this tear healed very quickly due to Andrzej's great physical condition at the time of the accident.
Andrzej is a very active guy and loves kiteboarding, windsurfing, snowboarding and a variety of other extreme sports. His spinal cord injury has left these activities questionable for his future but there is no doubt in our minds whether or not he walks again he will find a way to get out there and be the daredevil we all know and love.
Above all Andrzej is a great friend and family man. He packed up his entire life in Poland in 1989 and moved his family to a country where he did not know the language and made an amazing life for his wife and children. Now a grandfather, Andrzej will still do anything for his kids and his grand kids. Our family has went through a lot of ups and downs over the years and he has been there as a rock. Now we are all going through this trauma together and we will get through it as we always do.
Unfortunately with an injury as severe as this, there are many life changes that come with it. Andrzej and his wife Grace have to sell their current home and move into something more comfortable in terms of mobility. Andrzej's car has to be fashioned for wheelchair accessibility. Unforseen medical expenses will probably reveal themselves through time. Andrzej can not currently work and Grace has to be a caretaker for the time being so finances may become an issue. We are hopeful this is a temporary situation for them as his recovery continues and he regains his full independence.
We have set up this fund for his friends, family, co-workers and anyone else that has ever had the pleasure of meeting Andrzej to show their support during this traumatic time. There is no pressure, we have just received many requests from friends and family that wanted to help but didn't know how or where to donate. The Holub family is ever grateful for any donations, prayers and all of the support we have received so far.
Thank you.
