Andy and Paul’s Kidney Transplant Journey!

My father, Paul Turcotte, was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy in 2011, which is a debilitating kidney disease that has resulted in a decline in his kidney functions and his overall health.  Despite his condition, he continued to work full-time all these years; long and strenuous hours to provide for my mom, my younger sister, and myself. As you can imagine, this was and still is extremely hard on his body, but he never stopped working hard for us. Throughout the last four years, my father had to attend dialysis three days per week for sessions that lasted over four hours. Due to dialysis, he also missed many holidays and special occasions with his family and friends.  
In November of 2018, I began dating Andy Mayzak. Within two months of dating, Andy quickly saw the devastating effect of my father's illness not only on my dad but my entire family. He explained to me that he wanted to see us happy, all spending time together. I couldn't believe it - Andy decided without hesitation, that he wanted to donate his kidney to my father. I was inspired by Andy’s generosity and decided to also be tested. The two of us went through months of appointments and testing and found that remarkably, my boyfriend Andy, was his exact match. 
Andy will be a living kidney donor for my father, Paul Turcotte, on October 1st, 2019.
