Andy Setera's Recovery
On Thursday, August 1st, Andy Setera was involved in a multi-car accident in New Bedford. He was rear-ended by an unlicensed driver and he was released from the scene when he didn’t have any apparent injuries.
However, a few days later he began to experience back pain and severe leg cramping. He went to Falmouth Hospital where he soon developed pneumonia. Within the next 24 hours, his pneumonia worsened and he became septic. He was intubated and placed on a ventilator as many of his organs were struggling.
On Wednesday, August 14th, he was diagnosed with a staph infection and his care exceeded what the hospital could provide. He was sent by MedFlight to Mass General, where he continues to fight his health battle in the intensive care unit.
His medical team is trying to find the balance of fighting the infection in his lungs and spine while also limiting blood clots, lowering his blood pressure, and keeping his heart out of Afib. There is concern for some type of internal bleeding that can’t be found yet. He is too unstable for surgical intervention and will likely be switched from sedation and intubation to a trach. They also plan to insert a feeding tube. Every day is full of testing: EKG, EEG, MRI, CT scan, bronchoscopy, bloodwork, etc.
With the recovery time unknown, traveling to Boston daily pulling his wife Diane away from her home, family and work. The unknown of therapy, home health care, ect your donation could put some ease to the family's ongoing struggle.
