Andy’s 100km Bike Challenge

November 2021
Welcome to Andy’s fundraising page. He has written his own account of his journey so far which you can read below. It perhaps doesn’t quite portray what a tough year it has been, or fully reflect the significant longer term disabilities Andy now has. However, we are so proud of all the challenges he has already overcome, and how optimistic he remains, and would be so delighted if you were able to help us continue to encourage him by supporting his challenge.

Andy’s Dartmoor Bike Challenge
I suffered from a stroke in February 2021 which has left me with weaknesses in my legs and shoulder. I have had intensive physiotherapy which has made considerable improvement. I have made good progress and I’m now able to access the outdoors and to enjoy social groups and watching TV. I still enjoy catching up with friends and music and audiobooks.
As part of my rehabilitation I have taken up a challenge using a therapy bike. My challenge was to cycle from hospital in Exeter to arrive home at Westward Ho! That was not a great enough distance, so I have extended the challenge to include my favourite area and to do a circuit of Dartmoor, starting and ending in Okehampton. This will total around 100 km. I’m not doing the challenge in one go but in stages so I can add up a running total to track my progress.
I’m going to do this challenge to support 3 different charities. My chosen charities are the Mardon Neurological Rehabilitation Centre where I have been treated since April, the Stroke Association and the Dartmoor Rescue Group, who are tremendous supporters of Ten Tors, an event which has always been very important to me.
I would be grateful if people would consider donating to my cause, the proceeds will be split evenly between the three charities.
