Andy's Community Mental Health Counseling

Hey everyone! I recently accepted an offer to work as a full-time therapist at a community mental health agency in Knoxville, TN. All of the clients we see are in low-income financial situations and use TennCare, the Tennessee state Medicaid program. Often times these individuals have significant trauma histories and many barriers to receiving mental health services.

As a fledgling counselor working in community mental health, I will receive a very modest income. Given the considerable start-up costs of beginning a therapy practice, I would like your support in creating an inclusive and well-equipped therapeutic space. Any amount will help! Here is a sample of the materials I would like to purchase:

• Child-centered play therapy materials (e.g., costumes/accessories, toy figurines, Legos, bop-bag, etc.)

• Fidget and sensory toys (e.g., Pop Its, spinners, etc.)

• The DSM 5-TR (for mental health diagnosis and conceptualization)

• Parenting resources (e.g., parenting skills handouts, workbooks, etc.)

• Welcoming room furnishings/decorations

• Any extra money would go to trauma-focused and Gestalt training workshops
