Andy's Cycling Fundraiser for Wythenshawe Good Neighbours

Donation protected
Back in January, Andy pledged to pedal a total of at least 2,024 miles in 2024 to raise £2,024 in support of our community group - Wythenshawe Good Neighbours (WGN).

WGN provides social and creative opportunities for older Wythenshawe residents (aged 50+, with many aged over 70 and living alone) to get together, make friends and try new things. We do this through providing a weekly community lunch and coffee mornings (with professional guests coming to speak on a range of topics); day trips; cultural activities; a monthly Newsletter; and a Volunteer Drivers Scheme to take Members from A-B, connecting them to their local community.

We also help our older people to build their personal resilience - through sign-posting them to support services, and through our own practical resilience resources for our Members.

As you can see, Andy has exceeded his original fundraising target. He has now cycled 3,324 miles (more than a thousand miles over his target). Amazing!

Andy's year-long challenge comes to a close at the end of December 2024.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to his fundraiser - including through his original Just Giving Crowdfunder campaign which closed in May 2024, after he had raised £1,204.

With the funds raised, we have already provided all our Members (over 150 older people) with:
  • A handy WGN 2025 'resilience' diary - featuring information about local support services (including our own Volunteer Drivers Scheme), emergency contacts and helpful 'what to do if...' scenarios.
  • A personalised Christmas card.
In addition, as Andy has done so well, we will also be able to:
  • reduce the costs of a spring coach trip for our Members.
  • Provide an additional 'resilience' gift early in 2025.
Samantha Days (WGN Manager), says:
"We are in awe of Andy and how many miles he has cycled this year to raise funds for our group. Our thanks to him and to all the generous people across the Wythenshawe community who have donated!"

Andy has this to say about his fundraiser:
"Back in January, I wanted to raise funds for a local good cause. I chose Wythenshawe Good Neighbours as I'm very familiar with the great work they do in support of older residents - to combat social isolation by connecting over 50s to their community.

Cycling's a great way for me to keep fit and feel good mentally. I also like to do my bit for the environment, so a bike challenge, to complete 2,024 miles during 2024 for a good cause, was the perfect fit.

I've cycled through wonderful scenery and countryside this year for my fundraiser. I also built up the mileage through cycling to and from work - so I've reduced my carbon footprint too!"

Thank you so much to Andy - and to everyone who has donated - for supporting Wythenshawe Good Neighbours!
