On December 3rd of 2021, Angela Muniz found a lump in her right breast and an enlarged lymph node under her arm as she was changing out of her nursing scrubs after her normal 12 hour shift. Immediately, thoughts of dread and fear came over her as she called out to her husband Mark. At this point she knew that things were not looking very good.
After a couple of weeks of MRI’s, CT scans and biopsies, December 17th came with the news that Angela had stage 2 breast cancer. After meeting with an oncologist and her surgeon Angela and Mark were told that her cancer was triple negative breast cancer which is among the hardest to treat. The oncologist basically told them that she was going to hit them with the hardest chemo drugs in her arsenal and that she would also likely be looking at radiation and some type of surgery after that.
Over the next year and half, Angela underwent 16 rounds of chemo, 31 rounds of radiation, a lumpectomy to remove the remaining lump along with 10 lymph nodes. Angela being Angela worked 3 nursing shifts throughout her entire journey. She completed her treatments in of April of 2023 and she was pronounced cancer free. Both Angela and Mark covered themselves in prayer and stood on scripture to fight cancer from both the medical and the spiritual side. Standing on Isaiah 41:10-13.
‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’
“Indeed, all those who are angry with you will be put to shame and humiliated; Those who strive against you will be as nothing and will perish.
“You shall search for those who quarrel with you, but will not find them; They who war against you will be as nothing, as nothing at all.
“For I the Lord your God keep hold of your right hand; [I am the Lord], Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’
In late October and early November of this year she started having several issues culminating in shortness of breath and lack of ability to keep her oxygen up. This resulted in a 3-night hospital stay at the end of November. During this hospital stay several scans, biopsies, x-rays and bloodwork were performed. With all this testing it was determined that her breast cancer had returned with a vengeance and she was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer, now not only in her right breast, but also in several other areas of her body including in her bones. Since the end of November, she has been unable to work due to her fatigue, shortness of breath and energy level. Needless to say, the financial stress of still trying to pay off the first set of medical bills, lack of ability to work and many new expenses piling up fast have put a financial strain on their family.
Since these latest diagnoses and knowing that the first initial treatments were unsuccessful, Angela and Mark are continuing to look at all available treatment options. Some of which are not covered by insurance. With the various treatments that are available to Angela, the reality is that health insurance can only go so far. The hope is not only for Angela’s complete and total healing but it is also to help relieve some of the financial burden as they explore integrative care which pairs normal chemo drugs with therapies that help to rebuild and bolster the immune system. All funds raised will go directly to paying for Angela’s treatments and health-related expenses. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness. Please continue to lift up Angela and Mark in your prayers as we know that prayer is the most important thing we can do.
We are standing on the promises of God. His word says that He is faithful, He is our healer and He is our provider. We appreciate prayers and support during this Journey!
